The game is setup as a third person RPG with real time battles. Enemies are visible and re-spawn after you leave an area, creating an endless supply of battles. You can however usually run right by most enemies if you choose so you don't have to fight the same battles all the time. The combat system is also straight forward with only one attack button with a jump button thrown in.

In might seem almost too simplistic but once you get into the game, it'll keep things interesting enough. The graphics and audio are a similar story as Ys: The Ark of Napishtim doesn't stand out, but does enough to keep from pulling the game down. The visual effects are okay and the different environments are diverse but not outstanding almost exactly the same quality as the PS2 release.

The audio is about the same with decent sound tracks but lacking the voice acting. Unfortunately they find themselves chased by the navy of the country they were fleeing. Unable to shake their pursuers Ladoc directs their ship into the Vortex, a horrendous, perpetual storm that no one has ever managed to escape from.

Just prior to enter the Vortex, the pursuing ships catch up and open fire. At some point Adol winds up falling off the ship, he later awakes on an island with a strange child looking at him. Thus his newest adventure begins. This game has decent music and sound effects memorable enough that I can still recall some of them after so many years, good graphics some of the cut-scenes are beautiful, and phenomenal game play.

You start with a steel weapon, then get a blue Emelas sword. Eventually you find red and yellow Emelas swords too In order, they are Livart, Blirante and Ericcil. Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube. The PlayStation Portable port does not include any of the changes of the PS2 port except for the removal of blood and gore effects.

However, the game is noted for having particularly long and frequent load times. Voice-acting was never included in this version.
